What to take to hospital when you're expecting your first baby
Preparing for the birth of your first baby can be an overwhelming and exciting experience. To help ensure that you have everything you need during your hospital stay, I've created a list of essentials that you should bring with you to the hospital when you're ready to have your baby.
-
Hospital paperwork: Make sure to bring all the necessary paperwork, including your ID, insurance card, and any hospital or birth center admission forms that you have been given.
-
Comfortable clothes: Bring comfortable, loose-fitting clothes to wear during your stay at the hospital. A nightgown, pajamas, or comfortable lounge wear can be a good choice.
-
Nursing bra: If you plan to breastfeed your baby, bring a comfortable nursing bra to wear.
-
Slippers or socks: Hospital floors can be cold, so bring a pair of warm, comfortable socks or slippers to wear during your stay.
-
Toiletries: Bring your own toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant. Hospitals often provide basic toiletries, but having your own can make you feel more comfortable.
-
Personal items: Bring any personal items that will make you feel more comfortable, such as a favorite pillow or blanket, a book or magazine, or a picture of your partner or family.
-
Snacks: During labor and after delivery, you may be hungry, so bring some of your favorite snacks to keep you fueled and satisfied. Opt for healthy snacks like nuts, fruit, and granola bars.
-
Camera or phone: You'll want to capture those first precious moments with your baby, so bring a camera or smartphone to take photos and videos.
-
Baby clothes and supplies: Don't forget to pack clothes and supplies for your baby, including a going-home outfit, diapers, wipes, and any special items such as a pacifier or swaddle blankets.
-
Car seat: Make sure you have a car seat installed in your car before you go to the hospital. You won't be able to leave without one!
Remember, this is just a basic list of essentials. Depending on your individual needs and preferences, you may want to bring additional items, such as music or aromatherapy tools to help you relax during labor.
Talk to your midwife or healthcare provider about any additional items you may need to bring with you to the hospital for your birth.
